JIG-SAW Received NOA from USPTO for “AI Computation-driven Vector Data-based Algorithm System” in the field of Animal Behavioral Analysis
Tokyo, Japan – JIG-SAW INC.(hereinafter “JIG-SAW”) announces that it has received a Notice of Allowance (NOA) and Fee(s) Due from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a patent relating to “AI Computation-driven Vector Data-based Algorithm System” in the field of animal behavioral analysis.
After a specified registration procedure, a patent for the new technology will be established in the United States, following Japan.
Outline of the patent
The patented technology provides “Systems, methods and programs for examining visual function.” In addition to being well suited and useful for animal testing as part of R&D efforts under JIG-SAW’s NEW VISION Project aimed at regenerating eyesight, even on a standalone basis this proprietary JIG-SAW technology can be applied to visual function testing systems, including those designed for humans.

Specifically, when a subject animal is placed so that it faces visual information moving in a set direction, the technology determines the varying speed at which the direction of the subject animal’s eyes change over time based on information indicating the subject animal’s gaze, which is acquired over a prescribed period. This determines the frequency characteristics of the speed at which the subject’s gaze shifts over this fixed passage of time, enabling the visual function of the subject animal to be tested based on the frequency characteristics.
Conventional methods to determine an animal’s visual acuity involve visually measuring the animal’s head movements when tracking a moving image with a striped pattern, after which the animal’s head turning angle captured with a camera is determined using a regression line or other approach. However, this method can frequently lead to misjudgments, since visual confirmation is always required.
The new technology solves the issue of misjudgments stemming from human visual confirmation, as it uses AI-computed vector data to apply data science-based analysis techniques that preserve linearity, while also enabling the algorithmic analysis of subtle head movements that might not be noticed during visual confirmation.
JIG-SAW has obtained numerous patents globally based on applications of its core technologies, and will continue to pursue research and development employing a range of approaches across diverse fields in an effort to transform the world with technology.
